First full day of walking.

——Same- Hiking in Guangdong has a lot of similarities to Hainan, like full humidity, which basically means sweat from every pore. Small towns connected by long strips of semi-highway leading to bigger towns. Livestock, free range chickens, goats and ducks all over the place. I, Lindsay, am still puffy faced with heat rashes on my legs 😒

——Different- The people have been so happy, friendly and joyful. There were a lot of nice people in Hainan, but something is different here. There are no more betel nut chewers (yay!). It's not AS hot, and cooling down a tiny bit every day (thank you October). We are now using smaller, lighter packs, have different shoes, use trekking poles, and camelbaks.

——Trekking Poles- we've never really walked with these before and when you first start it feels so ridiculous. Cons- you aren't hands free anymore, this means slowing down to do even the smallest thing like wipe sweat off you face. I almost skewered a 🐸. It's harder to use a camera. Pros- once you get going they feel apart of your rhythm. They help you go faster and keep a regular pace. It's not so startling now when we run into dogs. The poles will hopefully hit a snake or something before we do.

——Cart- I feel like the discussion of a cart has been circling around every few months. Abe is convinced it would be better for all our joints and we could go further faster. The roads we are walking on are not main highways, but they are pretty nice roads with moderate traffic. Not sure where we will get one, or how it will all work, but we'll keep you updated.

——Mowgali and Homeless- In the heat of day on a long stretch of nothing, we passed a man walking completely naked, he didn't even have shoes. I looked down at all my gear and different articles of clothing and thought, "That guy is a legit walker." At dinner, a homeless lady walked into the resturant and the owner chased her out with a long pole, the whole thing was a bit aggressive esp because she was an old woman.
